Heroes of Rain

Beta. Play Risk of Rain 2 as Juno, Vendetta or D.Va. They are three new survivors on the character select, built from your own Overwatch install: their real models, first-person views, animations, ability icons, portraits, ability sounds and voice lines. Everything else is normal Risk of Rain 2: same stages, same enemies, and you pick up and stack the same items.

V is quick melee and R reloads. P switches between first and third person. Interact moves to F and equipment to 1. Other survivors keep Risk of Rain 2's keys, and controllers keep the Risk of Rain 2 layout.

How it plays

• Every hero's main attack does about the same damage per second (about 4x the damage stat).
• Vendetta: every hit builds Onslaught (faster attacks and movement). Soaring Slice into the air carries your momentum; click while airborne to dive and cleave the ground. Sundering Blade shows a line on the ground: aim it, then click to cut along it. It works in the air too.
• Juno: double jump and hover, Glide Boost, and the Hyper Ring speeds up everyone who runs through it.
• The ultimate charges as you deal damage (and slowly over time) and is shown under your crosshair.
• Items that change one skill slot land on the matching Overwatch ability, and ammo packs refill magazines.

Playing with friends

Join through the game: the host opens Risk of Rain 2's multiplayer lobby and invites friends through Steam; friends accept the invite. Up to 4 players, and every player needs this mashup and their own Overwatch install.

First Play

Melty reads the three heroes from your Overwatch install once, before the first start. Close Overwatch first. It takes a few minutes and uses about 200 MB in %LOCALAPPDATA%\HeroesOfRain. Overwatch is never modified or launched. Nothing from either game is included in this download: every player uses their own copies.

Known limits in this beta

• D.Va stays in her mech; Self-Destruct sends the MEKA off to explode and she keeps fighting in a new one (no Baby D.Va yet).
• Some ability sounds were matched by the shape of their sound, not by name, so a few may be off. The voice lines are Overwatch's own labelled lines.
• Items don't show on the heroes' bodies.

• Reads Overwatch's files with DataTool from overtools/OWLib (MIT), bundled unmodified with its own third-party licenses. Sounds are decoded with NVorbis (MIT).
• Runs on BepInEx 5, which Melty installs.
