Play Minecraft survival as the real Sonic Adventure 2 cast, in third person: Sonic, Shadow, Tails (Cyclone), Knuckles, Rouge and Eggman (Egg Walker).
Their 3D models, textures and animations, and their running, acceleration and jump physics, are read from your own Sonic Adventure 2 install (Steam) while you play. The animations come straight from SA2's own animation table, and running cycles match your speed on the ground. Nothing from SA2 is in the download.
How it plays
- You spawn as Sonic. When your world has generated, the character select opens: keep Sonic or pick anyone. Switch whenever you like (controller Y, or D-pad left/right to cycle; keyboard J, N/M).
- SA2 momentum. You cruise without sprint. Hold sprint (left-stick click or Ctrl) and speed builds up to SA2's top speed. Speed carries over: slopes speed you up or slow you down, and pushing against your motion makes you skid.
- Minecraft survival rules stay: mining, crafting, hunger and fall damage. You take no fall damage while flying, gliding, climbing or dashing.
- Abilities hit the Minecraft world and its creatures, and they are destructive. They break blocks (which drop as items) and damage mobs:
- Sonic: Homing Attack (air) / Spin Dash (ground) in his real spin ball with afterimages, Sonic Wind, Light Speed Dash
- Shadow: skates on his Air Shoes; Homing Attack / Spin Dash, Chaos Spear (explodes), Chaos Control (freezes nearby mobs)
- Tails (Cyclone) and Eggman (Egg Walker): fast walkers that fly while A is held (at 3/4 of their running speed, with thruster jets). Abilities: Lock-On Laser (hold to lock up to 8 targets), Bazooka Beam / Volkan Cannon, Protective Armor
- Knuckles and Rouge: glide (hold A in the air), climb walls while A is held and move left/right along them (sneak to let go). Abilities: punch or kick combo, Dig / Bombs, Maximum Heat / Drill Dive
Xbox controller
Left stick: move (click it to sprint). Right stick: camera. A: jump (hold it in the air to glide, fly or climb). X / B / D-pad up: abilities. Y: character select. RT: attack/mine. LT: use/place/eat. LB/RB: hotbar. Right-stick click: sneak. View: inventory. Menu: pause. In menus, the left stick moves the cursor, A clicks and B goes back.
On keyboard: Ctrl sprint, R / G / V abilities.
Good to know
- Single player. Minecraft 1.21.1 with Fabric, through a bundled Prism Launcher.
- Requires Sonic Adventure 2 on Steam for the characters. Without it you play normal Minecraft and the game tells you why.
