It's Monday in City 17, and the Postal Dude has errands to run.
You play the Postal Dude through Half-Life 2's train station chapters with a POSTAL 2 errand list in hand. Sonic Adventure 2's rings and lost Chao are scattered through City 17, and SA2's GUN robots hunt you down. Everything from POSTAL 2 and SA2 comes from your own copies of those games.
What you get
- The Dude's real POSTAL 2 weapons in first person: shovel (Sonic throws it to him; it takes heads off), pistol, shotgun, gas can (pour a trail, light it with a match), matches and his urethra (pee puts fires out), with his own arms, animations and sounds. Lots more ammo, or endless with
pa2_infinite_ammo 1.
- Monday's errand list on POSTAL 2 notepaper with POSTAL 2's own crossouts: Get Milk (POSTAL 2's milk carton), Collect 100 rings, Find 3 lost Chao, Scrap 5 GUN robots. POSTAL 2's Monday newspaper opens the day on the train and closes it.
- The Dude's voice: he reads the day, comments on errands, kills, pickups, pain, fire and saves, mutters when idle and answers City 17's people back.
- POSTAL 2's HUD: the blood-splat column with the pumping heart, health, armor, the current weapon's icon and its ammo, in POSTAL 2's own font.
- Sonic Adventure 2 rings with their chime, and they're your armour. Get hit and they scatter instead of you taking full damage, so grab them back before they blink out.
- Lost Chao around City 17, and GUN Mono Beetles and Gun Beetles that ram and shoot you, then burst into rings.
- Metal Sonic prowls the station with his SA2 model and motions. He watches the Dude, runs off when hurt and goes down (rings flying) like any other NPC, then blows up.
- Sonic Adventure 2's cast plays Half-Life 2's: Sonic is Barney (Combine helmet and all), Amy is Alyx, Tails is Dr. Kleiner, Knuckles is Eli, Rouge is Dr. Mossman, Shadow is the G-Man, Big the Cat is the Vortigaunts and Dr. Eggman is Dr. Breen, on the Breencast screens too. Half-Life 2's scenes, voices and story carry on: they copy the original's arms and head in scenes (typing, pressing buttons, taking off a helmet), and monitors are framed to their height.
- City 17's citizens can be hurt like any NPC, except the ones the story needs. Story characters can't be hurt by anything, and the teleport ride in Kleiner's lab can't strand you.
- Chao silencer: POSTAL 2's cat silencer, with a Chao. Alt-fire with the shotgun puts a Chao you found on the barrel: muffled shots, Chao cries, robots further away don't hear a thing. The Chao lies along the barrel like POSTAL 2's cat; after 9 shots it's fired off and blows up on whatever it hits.
- Sonic Adventure 2's stage music, a different theme on every map: City Escape, Mission Street, Prison Lane, Radical Highway, Security Hall, Final Rush and more.
- Half-Life 2's maps, story, NPCs and physics around all of it. Single player.
You need
- Half-Life 2 (Steam). Melty starts it with the mod.
- POSTAL 2 (Steam) for the Dude's weapons, voice and errand art.
- Sonic Adventure 2 (Steam) for the rings, Chao, robots, characters, voices and music.
On the first Play, Melty copies a few files from your POSTAL 2 and Sonic Adventure 2 and converts them once (about 20 seconds). No game content ships with the mod. Missing one of the two? It still runs and tells you in game what's missing.
