You're stacked up on a door in Ready or Not when something groans behind you. It's a zombie. A real Minecraft one.
Ready or Mob drops Minecraft's mobs into Ready or Not's missions as a third side in every fight, and puts Minecraft's hearts, hotbar and XP bar on your screen. Everything Minecraft is read from your own Minecraft: Java Edition install while you play: the skins, the sounds, the HUD sprites, the item icons.
What happens in a mission
- Zombies spawn out of sight, shamble toward whoever is nearest and beat on them.
- Creepers run in, hiss, swell and blow up. Everyone in the blast gets hurt.
- Skeletons hang back and loose arrows at you.
- They go for officers and suspects alike. Your AI squad gets shot at too.
- Your guns work on them. Every shot fired in the mission is tested against the mobs, and headshots do double damage.
Minecraft rules for you
- Ten hearts that follow your real Ready or Not health, with Minecraft's hurt sound when you lose some.
- Dead mobs drop rotten flesh, bones, arrows, gunpowder and XP orbs. Walk over them to pick them up; the hotbar and XP bar fill in like they do in Minecraft.
- Press U to eat rotten flesh and get two hearts back.
You need
- Ready or Not on Steam (built and tested on 1.3.0.0).
- Minecraft: Java Edition installed, with at least one version downloaded in its launcher.
Single player, with the game's AI squad. Press Play and Melty sets up the rest.
Good to know
- If Minecraft isn't installed, the mashup stays idle and Ready or Not plays as normal.
- Mobs don't open doors: they walk through closed ones.
- Your AI squad doesn't aim at mobs on purpose, though their shots hurt any mob in the way.
- A small helper program (rom-helper.exe) runs alongside the game to read Minecraft's files and play its sounds. It closes when the game does.
