Stardew Valley has leaked into Noita's caves. You're still the Noita wizard, with wands, spell crafting and falling-sand chaos, but now you farm, forage, mine and level up on the way down. Everything Stardew in it is read from your own copy of Stardew Valley when you press Play.
Farming in falling sand
- Hold seeds and food in your real Noita item slots. Throw a parsnip or seeds at the ground to plant it, and press the eat key to eat.
- Seeds for every crop, crafted from 5 of that crop. Parsnips and potatoes grow anywhere; rarer crops only grow in their own places and times (Melons in the summer Jungle, Starfruit at night, Ancient Fruit in the Vault). Mixed Seeds grow whatever suits the spot.
- Mixed Seeds depend on where and when. Spring in the Mines gives Parsnips, the Jungle grows Cauliflower, Melons and Pumpkins by season, the Snowy Depths grow Kale, the Vault grows Ancient Fruit, and anything planted at night comes up as Starfruit.
- Five growth stages. Plants grow at half speed when dry and full speed when watered. Sprinklers, Speed-Gro and Fertilizer help.
- Pour Noita liquids on your crops. Blood makes them giant, healthium ripens them instantly, toxic sludge or polymorphine mutates them into another crop, acid and lava destroy them, slime makes them slimy, whiskey makes the harvest random, milk and... urine fertilize, and oil stunts them.
The caves
- Wild forage grows on cave floors: wild parsnips, horseradish, spring onions, dandelions, daffodils, mushrooms and weeds (Fiber and Sap).
- Geodes and ore are sunk into the rock where you can see them. Dig or blast them out. Geodes are small rocks you then break open (shoot them, blast them or throw them hard) for gems, crystals, ores and Stardrops.
- No more gold drops. Enemies drop only their own body parts: bones, bat wings, bug meat, slime, ectoplasm, essences, battery packs from robots, wool, squid ink.
- Junimos bite until you throw them a parsnip; then they fight for you. Green Slimes hop around everywhere.
The backpack (press B, or the chest under your wands; you can keep moving while it's open)
- Stardew-style slots in Noita's own inventory style, with filters (Food, Seeds, Materials, Ores & Gems, Tools) and Sort. 12 slots to start, with more from Holy Mountain upgrades and the Large Pack perk.
- Item details: what each thing is, what it heals, what it ships for, which recipes use it, and buttons to Eat, Hold, Use, Throw or Ship it. The put-away key (N) sends the stack in your hands back. Your Junimo friend count is shown here too.
- Crafting: Stardew recipes (Field Snack, Bug Steak, Life Elixir, Sprinkler, Speed-Gro, Fertilizer, Cherry and Mega Bombs) plus things only Noita lets you make: Digging Bolt, Spark Bolt and Black Hole spells, flasks of healthium, polymorphine, berserkium and water, wands, and heart containers. Ingredients show what you have against what you need.
- Skills tab with progress bars, and a Guide tab that shows what grows where, what each liquid does to crops, and which monsters drop what.
- Shipping Bin at every Holy Mountain: sell your goods for gold.
Skills: Farming, Foraging, Mining and Combat from Stardew, plus two new ones, Alchemy (liquids on crops, Noita recipes) and Exploration (new biomes and Holy Mountains). Each levels to 10 with real bonuses. There are also seven Stardew perks at the perk altars.
Mod settings (Mods > Noita Valley in Noita), in units you can picture: growing time in seconds, day length in minutes, XP for level 10, prices in gold, health in HP, creature and plant size in pixels. Each skill's bonus can be set on its own (or made negative), and every glitch can be tuned or switched off. Spawn rates, drop chances and other amounts without a natural unit are a percentage of normal.
Bugs we left in on purpose
- Hydro-Sprout Dupe: a thrown parsnip soaking in water sprouts a copy. Each parsnip does it once, but the copies can too.
- Junimo Overflow: befriend a third Junimo (you can change the number) and the counter wraps. Every Junimo friend bursts into gems, and you get a Stardrop.
- 2 AM Floor Bug: at 2:00 AM you pass out and lose 10% of your gold... unless you're in the air, in which case you get paid 25% instead.
Needs: Noita and Stardew Valley (1.6.15 or newer), both installed. Solo play.
