Verity in How to Fish

Verity™, your personal helper friend from the Minecraft mod Verity, washes up in How to Fish, and she talks back.

Fish as usual until a bite turns out to be Verity's box. Reel it in, take it off the hook and it lands at your feet, knocking from inside. Press G to let her out. She rolls after you, talks with you by text or voice in her own voice, and remembers how you treat her. After a few days, or as soon as her mood runs out, she turns, and VERITY hunts down whoever is closest.

Talk to her

• Type in the game's chat, or hold V and speak. Her brain is an AI (Groq, OpenRouter, or a free local Ollama model on your own PC) with the original mod's personality, mood and actions. If one AI runs out (a daily limit, no credits) she switches to the next by herself.
• Her own voice: the Verity voice on Fish Audio (with emotions) or Cartesia, or the offline voice that's included and needs nothing.
• She asks you things out of the blue ("Can I ask you something?"), shares real facts, gets cocky ("I know."), needy ("Why? You have me, though.") and, closer to the turn, very creepy. Even when she's happy, creepy things slip out ("I wasn't always a ball, you know."), then she covers it up. Over 700 built-in lines, plus whatever her AI comes up with.

Her powers (always her choice)

• Gives items, cooked fish and money; upgrades the weapon you hold (sights, suppressor, laser, extended mag, damage, knife sharpness), even past its maximum; cooks your fish; kills or hurts fish, bosses and players when asked.
• Favours: cheap things are easy, powerful things cost her favour points that refill slowly. She bargains, gives less, or says no, and she's more generous when she likes you.
• She watches how you kill: clean headshots and trick shots impress her; overkill, explosions, endangered fish and killing players don't.
• 24 tricks for everyone to see: fireworks, meteors, hearts, bubbles, disco, giant, vanish and more, and creepy ones like clones, red eyes in the dark, a blackout, and appearing right behind you.

The turn

Her mood (0-20) only changes with how you treat her: kind words raise it; rudeness and hitting her with fists, guns, blades or explosions lower it. As her days run out, the most her mood can reach drops too, and omens start: whispers, her face glitching, long stares, red eyes in the dark. After a random number of in-game days (3-7 by default), or when her mood runs out, she freezes, goes blank, rises glitching and swells red until lightning and a blackout bring VERITY, her demon form, which hunts the nearest player to the chase music, taunting you and blinking closer. A catch is a jumpscare and heavy damage. Beg, and she may turn back. When it's over, everything goes black, and she leaves you with a few last words.

Saved with your world

Leave and come back: if she was out, she's still there (with her mood, days and favours), and she says welcome back. Weapons she boosted keep their damage, and can be dropped or given to friends.

Co-op

One Verity per world, run by the host and seen and heard by everyone (up to 8 players). Only the host sets her up (AI and voice keys) and opens Verity Settings (F8) or the debug menu (F5); friends need nothing but the mashup. Join through the game: the host loads a world with online play on and uses Invite Friend (or Copy Lobby ID); friends accept the Steam invite, use Join Friend, or paste the lobby ID into Join by ID.

Setup (optional)

Without any keys she still talks with her built-in lines and the offline voice. For her AI brain, add a free Groq or OpenRouter key in Verity Settings (F8), or run Ollama on your PC. For her real voice, add a Fish Audio key. Keys stay on your PC.

How to Fish's own folder is never changed: the mashup runs from its own folder and loads into the game when you press Play.
