Subnautica's ocean. Your whole Minecraft toolkit.

You play in Subnautica: its map, its creatures, its story. Real Minecraft runs beside it, so everything in your hands is Minecraft's own. Place and break blocks on the seabed or the surface, build a cobblestone house next to your lifepod, fight Stalkers with a diamond sword, and open any Minecraft machine where you stand.

New in Sandbox

• Survival or Creative, whenever you like. Press G to switch. In Creative every Minecraft item is in your inventory, nothing in the ocean hurts or hunts you, you need no oxygen, and Subnautica's own builder and Fabricator are free too. Press G again and you are back in Survival, with your Subnautica save's own game mode untouched.
• Fly. Press V in Creative to take off or land. Space rises, Shift sinks.
• Type anywhere. The Creative search box and anvil names take typing from Subnautica's window, so you can find any item by name.
• Machines that work. Crafting tables, furnaces, chests, hoppers, dispensers, pistons, anvils, enchanting tables, brewing stands and redstone all run on Subnautica's map. All 26 are checked on every release.
• Commands allowed. The world Minecraft opens for you takes / commands, and F9 opens Subnautica's console.
• Minecraft looks after itself. Subnautica starts Minecraft when you press Play and Minecraft closes when you quit Subnautica.

One shared health bar, Minecraft's hunger and Subnautica's oxygen, Minecraft's inventory on E, Subnautica's tools as items in your hotbar, vehicles, digging the seabed for materials, trading at the Fabricator, creature drops, and Minecraft's own mobs in the deep.

How to play

Press Play. Subnautica starts, and Minecraft starts behind it and opens its own world by itself. Load a save or start a new game and the two link up in a few seconds. Play in Subnautica's window and leave Minecraft running behind it.

You need Subnautica (Steam) and Minecraft: Java Edition. The first Play sets up Minecraft 1.21.1 with Fabric for you; that takes a few minutes, once.

Good to know

• Solo. This version isn't set up for playing with friends.
• Very large builds (thousands of blocks in view) lower Subnautica's frame rate.
• Blocks you place are kept in the Minecraft world, not in your Subnautica save.

Credits

A remix of Subnauticraft by JasonNinja15, which did the hard part: linking the two games. Sandbox adds the mode switch, flying, typing, the machine checks and commands. Code written with Claude. Ships Prism Launcher (GPL-3.0) and Fabric API (Apache-2.0), unmodified. MIT licensed; remix it freely.
