Gears of RE4

Marcus Fenix takes Leon's place in Resident Evil 4 (2005). Everything else stays RE4: the village, the Ganados, Ashley, the story.

Marcus is the real thing, read from your own Gears of War: Reloaded install the first time you press Play: his model, textures and animations, his weapons, the Gears HUD art, the weapon sounds and his combat lines. Nothing from either game is included in the download.

What you get

• Marcus in RE4 with Gears animations, drawn into RE4's scenes with RE4's own camera.
• His loadout: RE4's guns become the Lancer, Gnasher, Snub, Boltok, Longshot, Hammerburst, Boomshot and Bolo grenades, with Gears fire, reload and chainsaw sounds.
• Gears mechanics: cover (slide in, move along it, pop up, lean out, blind fire, swat turn, vault, cover-to-cover dash), Active Reload, Lancer chainsaw executions, Roadie Run, walking while aiming, the Gears over-the-shoulder camera and regenerating health with the Crimson Omen.
• Gears HUD: weapon icon and ammo, the Crimson Omen when you're hurt, Ashley's health as a squad bar.
• Marcus talks: "Contact!", kill lines, "I'm out!", "All clear" and his pain grunts replace Leon's. Cutscenes keep RE4's own audio.

Good to know

• Needs Resident Evil 4 (2005, Steam) and Gears of War: Reloaded (Steam) installed. Gears is never started or modified, only read.
• The first Play spends about 15 seconds reading Marcus from your Gears copy, then RE4 starts.
• Installs a re4_tweaks build (by nipkow and contributors, zlib license) with the Gears modules as Bin32/dinput8.dll; it replaces a re4_tweaks DLL you may already have.
• Single player. Known limits: cutscenes and the inventory screen still show Leon.
