Work in progress. Overlord 1's Dark Tower and its story, played with your Overlord II Overlord, read from your own Raising Hell install.
What's in 2.3
- The Dark Tower inside Overlord II: in your Netherworld, press F8. Overlord II's own travel takes your Overlord, with his minions and HUD, into Raising Hell's Dark Tower. F8 there takes you home.
- Overlord 1's story, from the ruined throne room: a save with no Raising Hell progress starts where Overlord 1 does after the crypt tutorial. The throne-room introduction plays on your first visit and Gnarl sets your first quest, "Retrieve the Tower Heart".
- Gnarl speaks: his lines play with Raising Hell's voice recordings and a subtitle bar, and quests show their text with Raising Hell's jingles.
- The Tower Portal: at the Teleportation Pit, Left / Right choose where to go (the Mellow Hills or the Netherworld); the pit shows the place, and stepping in takes you there.
- The Tower's stairs lead down to the Spawning Pit and the Tower Dungeon, and back up again.
- The Mellow Hills: Raising Hell's first land, with its halflings, sheep and lifeforce, under Overlord II's HUD.
- Smash things: Raising Hell's pumpkins, milk jugs, carts, sunflowers and other props are solid and breakable by the Overlord.
- Characters come to life: halflings and the other Raising Hell characters use their own behaviours (sleeping, strolling, dancing, fighting) instead of standing in a T-pose.
- No more invisible walls (new in 2.3.1): the walls around Bob's farm, the sheep and the fence gap are gone. They were Raising Hell's invisible obstacles meant only for the sheep and halfling groups, which Overlord II had applied to everyone.
- Bring the Tower Heart home: find it in the Mellow Hills and your minions lift it. Take it to the Tower Gate and it goes home: the quest completes, the Spree opens, and on your next visit the Tower Heart cut scene plays and your Tower starts to wake.
- The Tower repairs itself through Overlord 1's phases (ruined, scaffolding, fixed) as the story moves on.
Raising Hell progress is kept with your Overlord II save. No Raising Hell save is needed.
Work-in-progress notes
- Minions don't attack Raising Hell's breakable objects yet, and the pushable pillar by Bob's farm doesn't work yet.
- Farmer Bob stands still after his cut scene, and Gnarl still stands in a T-pose at the Mellow Hills gates. The Jester doesn't follow you around yet.
- Lighting is cooler than in Raising Hell and the fire in braziers and basins is missing.
- Arriving in the Mellow Hills opens Overlord II's gate menu straight away; press Back. From the Mellow Hills, pick "Netherworld Tower" in that menu, or press F8, to go home.
- When you pick up or bring home a Tower Object, Gnarl's comments and the quest note can follow a few seconds late.
- Needs the Steam version of Overlord II.
How it works: a companion program starts Overlord II with a small add-on that loads Raising Hell's maps, packs, subtitles and voices straight from your Raising Hell folder. It adds the script functions Raising Hell's maps need, so their original story scripts run. It also translates, in its own copies, the Raising Hell data Overlord II reads differently: model collision, character behaviours, and whom each invisible obstacle blocks. Nothing from either game is shipped, and no game files are changed.
