Press Play, hit Start Run on a start menu drawn from Isaac's own title screen, and you wake up in Isaac's Basement — in first person, as your Minecraft self, crying Isaac's tears at Isaac's monsters.
Everything from The Binding of Isaac is read from your own installed copy of The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth when the game starts: its rooms, monsters, items, sprites, music and sounds. Nothing from Isaac is shipped.
What you'll play
- A real Isaac floor, in blocks. Every run lays out a new Basement of 8–9 rooms with Isaac's own map rules, each room one of Isaac's real Basement layouts — 3D rocks, pots and poop, plus TNT, spikes, cobwebs, pits and fireplaces, textured from Isaac's sprites.
- Isaac's monsters, animated from your copy: Gapers, Frowning Gapers, Gushers, Horfs, Flies, Attack Flies, Pooters, Clotties, Mulligans, Hoppers, Spiders, Fatties and Dips, each with its own behaviour.
- Isaac's real doors in every doorway: gold for the treasure room, the horned skull door for the boss room. They slam shut until the room is clear, then open with a chance of a penny, bomb, key or heart.
- Shoot Isaac's tears: hold left click to fire where you look, right click to drop a bomb that breaks rocks.
- Treasure room: a real collectible on Isaac's altar — The Sad Onion, The Inner Eye, Cricket's Head, Polyphemus, Magic Mushroom, <3 and more — changing your damage, tears, range, shot speed and speed with Isaac's own formulas.
- Monstro, the Basement boss: hops, blood spray, jump-and-slam (watch his shadow to dodge it), Isaac's boss bar and boss music. Beat him for a boss item and a trapdoor to the next floor.
- Isaac's HUD: red hearts, coins, bombs, keys and stats. Die and a fresh Basement begins.
