Start a new game in Fallout: New Vegas and you're born in Fallout 3's Vault 101, rebuilt on your PC from your own copy of Fallout 3.
What you play
- Childhood in Vault 101: Fallout 3's intro, your birth, first steps, 10th birthday party and the G.O.A.T. exam. This time Doc Mitchell gives the exam, with inkblot slides, and his results are the ones from New Vegas.
- The escape: you leave the vault with the Platinum Chip and Dad's note.
- The Capital Wasteland: step out at 10 AM into Springvale and Megaton, with Lucas Simms at the gate and Megaton's townsfolk.
- Benny catches up: three minutes later he finds you. When you go down, the screen cuts to black, his crew takes everything, and New Vegas's intro plays.
- Goodsprings: you wake at the cemetery in your Vault 101 jumpsuit with your Pip-Boy, and Victor rolls over to greet you. New Vegas's story carries on from there.
How it works
- You need both Fallout: New Vegas and Fallout 3 installed.
- Nothing from either game is included in the download. On the first Play, Melty shows "Setting up Fallout 3" for about half a minute while the mashup rebuilds Vault 101, Springvale and Megaton from your own Fallout 3 files. After that, Play goes straight to New Vegas.
- PurityKey is added to New Vegas's load order only while you play through Melty. When you start New Vegas any other way, it's the plain game.
Known limits
- A long fall in the Capital Wasteland can still kill you. Reload your save if that happens.
