Baldur's Gate 3 comes to the Mojave. You play Fallout: New Vegas, its story and its world, as a Baldur's Gate 3 character. Everything from Baldur's Gate 3 (names, descriptions, class hit points, spell slots, spell dice, monster stats, Raphael's and the companions' lines) is read from your own installed copy. No game files are shipped.
What you get
- Character creation. When you step outside (after Doc Mitchell's on a new game, or at once on an existing save) you choose one of 11 races, 12 classes and their subclasses, and your skill proficiencies. They replace S.P.E.C.I.A.L., tagged skills and perks.
- 48 spells and class actions that do what they do in Baldur's Gate 3: attack rolls against Armour Class, saving throws against your spell DC, Baldur's Gate 3's own damage dice, and their effects (Misty Step teleports, Hold Person paralyses, Haste speeds you up, Thunderwave throws enemies back, Cure Wounds heals, Rage, Sneak Attack, Divine Smite and more).
- Spells in the Pip-Boy. Everything you know is on the Perks page; everything castable is under Items > Aid, where you can use it or give it a number hotkey. G casts the selected spell, H lists spells and slots, J is your character sheet.
- Spell slots and rests. Sleeping or waiting six hours is a long rest; short rests are on the character sheet.
- Dice in conversation. A d20 is rolled when a conversation opens and decides its Speech, Barter and other skill checks. Factions and reputation are untouched.
- Levelling like Baldur's Gate 3, to class level 12: hit points, proficiency, new slots and spells, ability improvements.
- Baldur's Gate 3 beings in the Mojave, each with a violet glow: goblins, gnolls, imps, intellect devourers, ghouls, an owlbear, a minotaur, a displacer beast, a spectator, a mind flayer, merregons and the orthon Yurgir. They fight you and the Mojave's own factions and creatures. They use Mojave bodies: New Vegas cannot show Baldur's Gate 3's models.
- Raphael's contract: the quest "Kill Raphael's Old Enemy", with a Persuasion roll to haggle.
- Magic items with their effects: Potions of Healing and Speed, the Everburn Blade, the Hellfire Hand Crossbow, the Amulet of Misty Step, Scrolls of Fireball.
- Companions from both games. New Vegas's companions work as always; Shadowheart, Karlach and Astarion camp by the south road into Goodsprings.
- Co-op for 2 to 3 players, from Crawlout New Vegas+ (included, unchanged).
You need
- Fallout: New Vegas (PC) and Baldur's Gate 3, both installed on the same PC. Melty installs xNVSE.
First launch
Press Play. The first time, a window reads your two games for about a minute before the game starts; leave it open. Back up your saves first.
If the New Vegas launcher opens instead of the game
On some PCs Steam sends the game to its own launcher window, and the mashup then doesn't load. Fix it once in Steam: right-click Fallout: New Vegas > Properties > Launch Options, and paste this, with your own New Vegas folder:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Fallout New Vegas\nvse_loader.exe" %command%
Close the launcher window and press Play again.
Known limits (0.1.1)
- The level-up screen still opens and asks for skill points; your class then sets your skills.
- Baldur's Gate 3 voice lines are text only.
- Co-op joining has not been tested with this mashup yet.
- Dropping a Baldur's Gate 3 potion from the Pip-Boy counts as drinking it.
