You are Yi in Hallownest. The Knight is replaced by Yi from Nine Sols. His real sprites, animations and sounds are read live from your own Nine Sols install every time Hollow Knight starts, and you fight with Nine Sols' rules.
What you get
- Yi, animated. Idle, run, jump and fall, slashes and up-slash, dash, wall slide and wall jump, double jump, focus, spells, benches, hurt and death all play Yi's own Nine Sols animations. Hollow Knight's movement, nail and map stay exactly as they are.
- Yi, sounding like Yi (new in 0.2.0). You hear Nine Sols' layered perfect-parry clang, Yi's parry stance, his sword swing (it replaces the Knight's), the talisman sticking and the talisman explosion. Every take comes from Nine Sols' own sound bank on your PC, at Hollow Knight's sound volume.
- Parry (F, or click the right stick): a tight window. An enemy hit that lands inside it is deflected. You take no damage, time freezes for a beat, Nine Sols' parry spark flashes, the attacker is knocked back, and you gain Qi (shown in your soul vessel).
- Qi talismans (G, or click the left stick): spend Qi to stick Yi's talisman on the nearest enemy in front of you. A moment later it bursts in Nine Sols' own talisman explosion. Hit the marked bug with your nail to set it off at once.
- King's Pass is your parry tutorial: the first crawlers and Vengeflies are perfect practice.
You need
- Hollow Knight (Steam). Melty installs the Modding API.
- Nine Sols, installed. Nothing from either game is included in this download. Yi, the talisman, the effects and the sounds come straight from your copy.
