Last Light turns Minecraft: Java Edition into a siege that never lets up. Every nightfall a siege comes for you, and each one is harder than the last.
What you do
- Survive your siege. Each player has their own: its number is the nights you have survived in a row, and its size is yours alone. Every 5th brings a ravager boss, and from the 3rd some monsters arrive as elites. It ends when its last monster falls or you die, not at dawn.
- Burn them with light. Torches, lanterns and glowstone you place hurt monsters and set them on fire. They will try to smash your lights.
- Build defenses. Campfires burn what comes near, dispensers loaded with arrows or fire charges become turrets, and walls have HP and hold until they break.
- Build a character. Your level is Minecraft's own experience bar. Each life starts by choosing a guardian stone, and each new level lets you pick 1 of 3 cards from 74 upgrade cards. Every card can come in five qualities, common to legendary, and each one you take keeps its own strength; a legendary card also brings a random small secondary. 16 synergies, with rerolls and banishes to steer the draw.
- Use abilities. 11 abilities with their own keys (rebind them in the menu): Light Pulse, Flare, Dash, Shockwave, Focus, Stone Skin, Healing Light, Marked for Death, Fire Breath, Become Ethereal and Storm Call.
- Hunt legendary weapons. 20 effects in the spirit of Fallout, Skyrim and Megabonk, written in the weapon's name. Bosses always drop one, elites sometimes, and your smith forges them.
- Run a village with real money. Unused beds bring villagers of eight professions: farmer, lamplighter, miner, engineer, smith, guard, cook and healer. Money is the emerald nugget, a real item (nine to an emerald): you sell and buy with each villager on the spot, with no credit and no debts, and they trade among themselves the same way. A village fund you can deposit into pays the guard and the healer. Finishing your siege pays nuggets.
- Die and start over. Death sends you far away, back to siege 1 and level 0. Your fort stays behind as ruins.
Cards have a top rank; the sieges don't. Build well or be overrun.
Play with friends
Up to 8 players. The host's world opens to friends through Melty's join link (no port forwarding). Players near each other fight side by side, but every monster belongs to one player's siege: a newcomer beside a veteran brings their own small siege. Join during a siege and you wait for the next nightfall; leave, and yours waits for you. The night can be slept through only once every connected player's siege is over and half the server plus one are asleep.
