A remix of Duel Link by Chase Bohn, the 1v1 mod for Half Sword, rebuilt so two players can actually fight each other. Work in progress: playable, and getting better with every update.
What's new compared to the original
It runs
No more crash about 13 seconds after starting. Every player of the original's last version hit it.
No freeze when the arena reloads, and no crash when an arena restarts mid-duel.
You can actually join each other
Join from anywhere: hosting opens a public address on the free bore.pub relay. The original handed out "localhost", so nobody could ever join.
No code to type: your friend presses Join on your game in Melty and is brought into your arena.
An alert when your opponent joins or leaves.
Rejoining works: if your friend drops out, they can join again.
Starting the next fight keeps you together: the joiner goes straight into each new arena you start, even a restart of the same one, and skips the menus.
If the joiner presses "Give up", they're brought back to your arena instead of the tutorial.
A real duel
Best of 5: score on screen, both fighters reset after every knockout, first to 3 wins, then a new match starts. A running match score sits next to it.
Knockouts count when it's over: dead, head off, both legs off, or down and unable to get up for 6 seconds.
Just you two: the arena's own AI fighters (and their weapons) are switched off while you're connected.
Your friend's loadout: the arena opponent you set up in Free Play (for example a knight) hands its weapons to your friend, who would otherwise only have fists.
Sync
Full body: 16 body parts are sent 30 times a second, and your opponent's fighter glides into their real pose. You see them move, swing and fall. If a copy ever gets pulled out of shape, it snaps back together at once.
Weapons, whole: each weapon is sent with its passport (blade, guard, grip, pommel, sizes, materials), so swords, maces and polearms arrive complete and as heavy as the real thing, not as an empty handle.
Real damage: when your opponent's weapon or fist hits you, your game wounds you the way it does in a normal fight, with its own blood, cuts and severed limbs.
Known limits
Each game judges hits on its own fighter, so a severed limb usually matches on both screens, but not always.
Armor and clothes aren't synced yet (next on the list).
Grabbing and wrestling don't sync.
How to play
Host: press Play, then pick Free Play and an arena. Set up the arena opponent with the weapons you want your friend to have.
Friend: press Join on the host's game in Melty and wait at the main menu. The mod brings you in.
Knock your opponent out to take the round. First to 3 wins.
