Fortnite's storm is coming for Gorilla Tag's forest. You play in Gorilla Tag. Fortnite's storm, loot chests, items and Training Dummies drop into the forest, read from your own Fortnite install every time you play.
How a match goes
Climb down from the treehouse and hold A + X (or press F6). After a 5-second Battle Bus countdown the storm circle appears. You drop in with nothing. Loot chests for guns, then take out all 12 armed Fortnite Training Dummies before the 4-phase storm closes. They hop around the forest carrying Fortnite's Assault Rifle and shoot back, but only 2 at a time, and their bullets are slow enough to dodge. Build Fortnite walls, floors and ramps to take cover. Win and you get a #1 VICTORY ROYALE, lettered in Fortnite's own Burbank font on Fortnite's Victory art, and your gorilla does a victory dance. If the storm or the dummies' bullets get you, you're eliminated.
Fortnite in Gorilla Tag
- The storm, in Fortnite's own storm colours. Like Fortnite, each circle shifts to a new safe zone. Outside it you lose health and the world turns purple.
- A Fortnite-style map: a minimap of the forest with the storm, the next safe zone in white, chests, dummies and you.
- A Fortnite inventory: a 5-slot hotbar with Fortnite's own item icons on rarity colours. Switch slots with the left thumbstick (or keys 1-5).
- 8 loot chests and 1 Rare chest, Fortnite's real chest models. Slap one open and the loot drops into your inventory.
- Fortnite building: unlimited Fortnite wood walls, floors and ramps on a gorilla-sized grid. Press Y (or B) to pick a piece and pull the trigger to place it. You can climb them, and they stop bullets. Dummies never build.
- Loot, held in your hand and sized to fit (right trigger to use, left trigger to drop):
- Assault Rifle: automatic, 30 rounds. Fortnite's own rifle and icon.
- Launch Pad: place it and bounce sky-high.
- Shockwave Grenade (3 uses): blasts you forward and shoves nearby dummies away.
- Chug Jug: full health plus 12 seconds of storm shield.
- Pump Shotgun (always in the Rare chest): a spray of 9 pellets, deadly up close.
- Guns only: visible bullets with tracers and Fortnite-style damage numbers. Gorilla Tag's trees and rocks stop bullets.
- Training Dummies: Fortnite's Training Dummy outfit, hopping around the forest floor with a rifle.
Good to know
- Solo practice. The mode only runs while you're not in an online room, and it stops the moment you join one.
- Sound. Fortnite's audio is in a format that can't legally be decoded by a mod, so you hear Gorilla Tag's own sounds (slap, gulp, boom, bounce) plus original synthesised chest, storm, bus-horn and victory sounds.
- First Play takes about 10 extra seconds and needs internet once: the mashup reads Fortnite's content from your install and fetches Fortnite's public pak key and mappings. It repeats only after Fortnite updates. Fortnite is only read from disk, never launched or modified.
- Works in VR. On a monitor, start with F6.
